This internal Mini-SAS to SATA forward breakout cable (SFF-8087 to 4xSATA) provides a robust solution for expanding storage capacity in systems utilizing RAID, HBA, or PCIe storage controllers equipped with an SFF-8087 internal Mini-SAS port. It facilitates the connection of up to four individual SATA 7-pin HDD or SSD drives, or a backplane with SATA data inputs, ensuring data transfer rates of up to 6Gbps (SATA III) per connected drive. It is critical to note that this cable is designed exclusively for data transmission, requiring separate SATA power connections for each drive.
Engineered for both DIY enthusiasts and professional installers, this one-way forward fan-out cable clearly designates the SFF-8087 connector for the host/controller side and the four SATA connectors for the drive side. Its unidirectional design means it is *not* reversible and cannot be used for connecting motherboard SATA ports to a Mini-SAS backplane or controller; such a configuration demands a reverse breakout cable. The generous 3.3-foot (1-meter) length, combined with a slim ribbon cable architecture, significantly aids internal cable management and minimizes airflow impedance within a computer case, crucial for optimal system cooling.
The cable's construction emphasizes durability and ease of use. It incorporates acetate cloth tape over the slim ribbon cables, providing essential strain relief without introducing rigidity, thus protecting the conductors. A woven mesh sheath covers half of the cable harness, facilitating organized routing and enhancing structural integrity. For simplified installation and maintenance, the individual SATA connectors are clearly marked P1 through P4. Low-profile SATA connectors feature easy-grip treads and integrated stainless steel latches, ensuring secure, vibration-resistant connections and preventing accidental disconnections.
