Sharonda Sammons, owner of Sammons Safety Services LLC, has highlighted disparities faced by Black businesses in securing opportunities. To address this, the Black Chamber of Commerce – Summit County, in partnership with the University of Akron, has launched a survey to compile an economic impact report.
This survey aims to capture data from 500 Black-owned businesses, including solopreneurs and nonprofits, by June 30th. Robert DeJournett, CEO of the Black Chamber, stated the survey is the first of its kind in Akron, focusing on Black businesses regardless of size or industry. Participation is confidential and takes about seven minutes.
The collected data will detail employment figures and economic contributions, serving as a crucial resource for policymakers and community stakeholders. The report seeks to demonstrate the significant, often underestimated, economic influence of Black entrepreneurs in the region.
