India and Canada Forge Strategic Ties: Uranium Deal and Economic Partnership Advance Bilateral Relations

India and Canada have significantly deepened their strategic alliance with a landmark $2.6 billion uranium supply agreement, securing fuel for India's nuclear energy program. Concurrently, both nations are accelerating negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with a target completion by the end of 2026. This pact aims to boost bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030.
Beyond energy and trade, the cooperation extends to critical minerals, renewable energy, and technological innovation, including AI and quantum computing. Memorandums of Understanding were signed to foster collaboration in these vital sectors. The leaders also emphasized strengthening people-to-people ties, with plans for Canadian universities to open campuses in India and enhanced cultural exchanges.
