Nvidia and SK Hynix have formalized a multi-year co-development partnership focused on next-generation AI memory chips. This collaboration is set to enhance the design and production of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) crucial for Nvidia's advanced AI accelerators, such as the upcoming Vera Rubin platform. The agreement addresses the significant industry challenge of memory supply limitations impacting AI infrastructure growth.
The deal positions SK Hynix to capture a dominant share, estimated between 60-70%, of the HBM4 volume for Vera Rubin, reinforcing its lead over competitors like Samsung and Micron. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the importance of this partnership in co-developing memory for "AI factories" and supporting the global expansion of artificial intelligence, addressing what is considered the toughest bottleneck in the chip industry.
