The head of college sports' NIL enforcement agency is reminding institutions that the rules governing athlete compensation were established by the schools themselves. Bryan Seeley, CEO of the College Sports Commission (CSC), stated that while the organization is mandated to enforce current regulations, it remains open to modifications if a consensus is reached.
Amidst growing frustration over the financial implications of third-party NIL deals and concerns that the current system is "unsustainable," Seeley emphasized that the CSC's role is to uphold the rules as written. This includes scrutinizing deals involving associated entities and addressing issues like prohibited recruiting inducements. The CSC recently secured a favorable arbitration ruling regarding an NIL deal, highlighting the ongoing enforcement efforts.
