Finnish startup Donut Lab has released promising results from its first independent test of its solid-state battery. Conducted by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the tests indicate the battery can achieve a 0-80% charge in as little as 4.5 minutes while retaining 99% capacity, and a full charge in just over 12 minutes without degrading significantly. This marks a potential breakthrough in overcoming the charging speed limitations of current electric vehicles.
The solid-state technology aims to offer higher energy density and improved safety over traditional lithium-ion batteries. By employing passive cooling methods during testing, Donut Lab demonstrated its battery's thermal stability even under rapid charging conditions. While these results are highly encouraging and could transform the EV charging experience, further verification is needed regarding the battery's chemistry and long-term reliability to confirm its market viability.
