South Korea is experiencing a tourism boom, with April marking the second consecutive month that over 2 million foreign visitors have entered the country. This sustained growth has set a new record pace for inbound tourism.
From January to April, the nation welcomed 6.77 million foreign travelers, the highest four-month total on record. This surge is largely fueled by the global popularity of K-culture and robust demand from Asian countries, particularly China and Japan. Long-haul markets from the Americas and Europe also contributed significantly, showcasing a broadening international appeal.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism highlighted that these impressive figures were achieved despite global economic challenges. Initiatives to promote regional airports and enhance transit connections are also proving effective in distributing tourism benefits beyond the capital. The economic impact is substantial, with an estimated 1.9 trillion won ($1.4 billion) spent by foreign visitors in April alone.
